Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and how anonymous questions and feedback are handled.

Last updated ·

Introduction

ToBeAMan is an educational platform offering guided, evidence-based journeys for young men. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle when you use the site, why we handle it, and the choices you have.

This page is maintained by the ToBeAMan team to answer common privacy questions about the service. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

We keep data collection deliberately minimal. Depending on how you use the site we may handle:

  • Content you submit — anonymous questions and journey feedback you choose to send us.
  • Account information — if you create an account, an email address and authentication details are stored by our backend provider.
  • Technical information — basic request data such as browser type, device type and approximate region, generated automatically when any website is loaded.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

Anonymous Questions

The "Ask Anonymously" feature does not ask for your name, email address or any account details. We do not attach your identity to a submitted question.

Please do not include personally identifiable information in an anonymous question — yours or anyone else's. That includes full names, phone numbers, email addresses, home or school addresses, social media handles, or any other detail that could identify a real person.

Submitted anonymous questions may be reviewed by our team and may inspire future educational content. If a question informs an article or journey, it is used as a general theme — we do not publish submissions verbatim in a way intended to identify anyone.

Feedback Submitted by Users

At the end of each journey you can tell us whether it was helpful and optionally add a short comment. We store the journey involved, your helpful / not helpful response, any comment text, and the time of submission.

Feedback is used only to improve the quality and sequencing of our content. Please keep feedback free of personal details for the same reasons described above.

Cookies & Analytics

We use a small amount of local browser storage to remember practical preferences — for example your light or dark theme choice, recent searches, and whether you have already submitted feedback on a journey during this session. This data stays in your browser.

If an account session is active, an authentication cookie or token is stored so you stay signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain and secure the site.
  • Improve existing journeys and decide which topics to write next.
  • Understand which subjects readers most need help with, in aggregate.
  • Respond to enquiries sent to us directly.

We do not use your submissions for advertising, profiling or resale.

Data Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored with our managed hosting and database provider, protected by access rules that restrict reading submissions to authorised administrators.

No online service can guarantee absolute security. We take reasonable, industry-standard measures, but you should still avoid sending sensitive personal details through the site.

Data Retention

Anonymous questions and journey feedback are retained for as long as they remain useful for editorial and quality purposes, and may be deleted or aggregated after that. Account data is retained while your account exists. You can ask us to delete content you submitted where it can be reasonably identified.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of service providers to run the platform, including our hosting and managed database/authentication provider, and web font delivery. These providers process data on our behalf and handle it under their own privacy terms.

Any external resources we link to — including support and crisis services listed on the site — are operated independently and are governed by their own policies.

User Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of that information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Because anonymous questions are not linked to an identity, we may be unable to locate a specific submission on request.

Children's Privacy

ToBeAMan is intended for users aged 16 and over, and some content discusses adult themes in an educational context. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves or as legal requirements change. When we do, we revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the site where appropriate.

Contact Information

Questions about this policy or a request about your information can be sent to privacy@tobeaman.app. We aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe.
